Bio Bay Bioluminescent Kayaking Tour in Fajardo, PR
About this adventure and logistics
Experience the magic of bioluminescent plankton on a kayaking adventure in Puerto Rico. Lasting two hours, this once-in-a-lifetime experience takes you through a hidden opening in the mangroves to Laguna Grande, where you will witness hundreds of tiny glowing plankton, also known as fire plants, scintillating like a starry sky. The adventure begins with a briefing session, covering basic kayak handling, rules of the road and the importance of keeping the pristine environment of the bioluminescent lagoon undisturbed. Leaving the channel and entering the lagoon, you will be greeted by a wide expanse of gentle, rippling water surrounded by mangrove forests, and the mountains of the El Yunque Rainforest in the distance. Your guides will provide an informative talk about the unique ecosystem, the flora, fauna, sea life and historical notes of interest such as the Fajardo Lighthouse. Then, it's time to dip your paddles and glide through the sparkling water, experiencing the incredible natural phenomenon of bioluminescence. This adventure is suitable for all family members, provided they are physically fit to handle a kayak with paddles (children from 5 years old). Double kayaks have a maximum weight limit of 425 lbs, while singles are limited to 250 lbs.
